The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization funded by an endowment whose mission is to address the unmet health needs of Kentuckians. The position of Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) is a new, exempt position, under the supervision of the Vice President for Policy, responsible for developing and facilitating relationships between the Foundation and community stakeholders and coordinating activities and events to engage communities throughout the state in furtherance of the Foundation’s mission, policy and advocacy agenda and strategic plan objectives. Requires travel throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

- Create an outreach plan and engage in cross-organization efforts to connect community engagement efforts to broader Foundation objectives.
- Planning and support for regional community health forums – work with leadership to establish objectives, identify and connect with local partners, program development, marketing and outreach.
- Serve as the lead staff person to the Foundation’s Community Advisory Council (currently 50 members) which includes:
- Develop a rapport and maintain regular communication with members of the Council.
- Engage Council Members in the policy and advocacy work of the Foundation by educating members on the Foundation’s policy positions and develop calls to advocacy action.
- Facilitate regular meetings with the Council’s 7-member Leadership Committee.
- Develop an annual plan of Council priorities and facilitate Council member engagement in these priorities and other work of the Foundation.
- All aspects of planning and facilitating the Council’s Annual Meeting held in conjunction with the Foundation’s annual health policy forum in September.
- Recruitment, onboarding and orientation for new Council members.
- Oversight of the Council database and governance processes.
- Oversight and administration of the Health Policy Champion Award nomination and selection process.
- Provide support for the Foundation’s signature community capacity building activity – Health for a Change – duties include assisting in program planning and development, venue identification, onsite logistics, setting up webinars and registration.
- Provide support for the development of the Kentucky Health Coalition Directory.
- Document all community engagement efforts and activities for purposes of evaluation and record keeping.
- Collaborate and consult with Foundation staff on other activities carried out with coalitions and communities in the Commonwealth.
- Special projects and other duties as may be assigned.
- Preparing draft plans and budgets for engagement activities.
- Participation and presentations to the Board and Board Committees.
- Participation in regular staff meetings.
- Contributing content for the Foundation’s e-communications.
- Participating in strategic planning activities as required.
- Maintaining files and records associated with the responsibilities of the position.
- Bachelor’s degree minimum.
- Work experience in the areas of public health policy, advocacy, communications and community outreach.
- Knowledge of Kentucky communities and experience working throughout Kentucky.
- A solid understanding of, or direct experience working collaboratively with individuals from all sectors of the community and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Understanding and appreciation for the Foundation’s mission.
- Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships with Council members.
- Successful track record in problem-solving, multi-tasking and working independently.
- Knowledge of health issues in underserved and rural communities
- Fastidious attention to detail.
- Superior event planning skills.
- Excellent writing, communication, analytic and organizational skills.
- An understanding of non-profit budgets and legal issues related to 501(c)3 organizations highly desired.
- Program evaluation experience is highly desired.
- Proven computer skills and software proficiency including – Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Reliable transportation for statewide travel, a valid Kentucky driver’s license and fully insured to operate a vehicle. Mileage reimbursed.
The Foundation offices are in Louisville. Preferred location for position is in Louisville or within Kentucky. Travel to the Louisville office is required for key meetings and events.
