LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 2, 2019 Coalitions of members who come together from a broad array of organizations to improve health in their communities often achieve better outcomes than organizations working on their own, according to the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky. As part of its work to grow and strengthen health coalitions in the Commonwealth, the Foundation today issued a "call for entries" from coalitions that want to be listed in a statewide directory.
Entries are due April 15 and can be submitted here. The directory will be published online this summer.
The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky Health Coalition Directory includes any group of individuals or organizations that have joined forces to improve health and health care in Kentucky. The groups, open to community members, have differing levels of organization and are pursuing varying goals. Some are increasing access to healthy food and physical activity; others are planning needed screenings and education for people at risk for serious health problems such as cancer, diabetes and other chronic diseases; yet others are improving the health of their communities by advocating for smoke-free or complete-streets ordinances.
"We can get a lot more done when we get out of our silos and come together to work on common goals, and that's a key part of the Foundation's philosophy and mission," said Ben Chandler, president and CEO of the Foundation. "The directory helps enable community advocates, health care providers, educators, public officials, business leaders and others to connect and collaborate with one another."
Chandler also noted that the Foundation offers a series of webinars and workshops for coalitions, nonprofits and other health organizations under the title Health for a Change to enhance their skills and otherwise grow their capacity to improve health in Kentucky.
